Hydrogen

As we are transitioning to hydrogen and hydrogen natural gas blends, considering that these technologies are not yet matured, there is a need to create a TCI that can identify and address challenges with the this industry. This TCI will provide a forum where the broad scope of the technical committees focuses on hydrogen specific issues. The TCI will monitor and asses hydrogen developments that are relevant to the AMPP community. In addition, the TCI will arrange seminars and other forums for industry, government and academic colleagues to participate in including AMPP Corrosion Conference, Corrosion Week and/or Fall Meeting.

    Dear All,

Welcome to the new AMPP community.   I am a metallurgical engineer with 35 years experience in a variety of metals industries, most recently in nickel and titanium alloys.  I certainly enjoyed getting back to in person in San Antonio, as I hoped you all did.  Here is a little more detail on the new look for AMMP's technical community.

Firstly, we are looking for interested volunteers to join as a voting member of Materials TC and/or as managers of the Technical Communities of Interest, TCI's.  We have 4 TCI's in place:

              TCI Adhesives and Sealants

              TCI Inhibitors

              TCI Non-Metallics

              TCI Hydrogen.

In addition, there is a move to place Additive and Hydrogen into the Material TC.

As noted on AMPP's website portal, Get Involved, Technical Committee (TC) chairs report directly to the AMPP Technical Program Committee and are responsible for overseeing various Technical Communities of Interest of various subject matters. These committees will be responsible for approving and disbanding current and future Technical Communities of Interest (TCI's), appointing leadership positions, and identifying gaps within their respective subject matter for the organization to act on.

Technical Committee (TC) chairs are selected by the AMPP Technical Program Committee (TPC) for a 2-year term. Once the chairs are selected, they can select up to 14 additional voting members maximum (15 total voting members including chair) for their committee per the AMPP Global Center Charter. In addition to selecting their members, they will also determine the term limits for each member of their committee.

Once we have at least 5 voting committee members in place, our first order of business likely will be to meet (virtually) to discuss the current and potential future Process Industries' TCIs.

As a member of a Technical Community of Interest, people are able to participate in:

    • Discussion at-will on the selected topic via our online community platform
    • Present information (by members and non-members)
    • Connect via meetings hosted on a collaboration platform, via teleconferences or at conferences (either regional or global events).
    • TCIs have unlimited membership. Any AMPP member or nonmember can join a TCI.

If you feel you are not able/willing to join us at this time, as a minimum, I would ask that you think of other materials/corrosion SMEs in your industry,  company, organization, who might be interested in becoming a voting member and/or leading a Materials TCI, and forward this note to them.

Please contact me via email (william.macdonald@timet.com) or though the AMPP Technical Community of Interest member "send message" tool.   Thank you.

    Sincerely,

    Bill MacDonald P.Eng., PhD
