Understanding the Technology and Advantages of Scanning Probes Used to Determine Coating Thickness
Date: June 13, 2023
Time: 9 – 11 a.m. CST - View local time
Cost: $100.00 USD
Speakers:
Bill Corbett, KTA
Chris Znosko, Newport News Shipbuilding
The use of continuous read/ scanning technology for acquiring a greater population of coating thickness measurements was introduced to the industry in 2017 and was incorporated into SSPC-PA 2 as an appendix (Appendix 10) in 2018. However, this technology and its advantages and limitations were not widely adopted by the coatings industry, so AMPP published Guide 21614, Guide for Improving the Statistical Quality of Dry Coating Thickness Data on Ferrous and Non-ferrous Metal Substrates Using Continuous Read/ Scanning Technology in March 2023 to help educate owners regarding this approach to DFT measurement. This edition of Forefront will describe the use of this technology, the content of SSPC-PA 2 Appendix 10, and the information contained in the newly published Guide.
Non-Metallics: Understanding Today and What the Future Holds
Date: June 21, 2023
Time: 9 – 11 a.m. CST - View local time
Cost: $100.00 USD
Speakers:
Bryan Hutton, Lubrizol
Michael Stevens, INEOS
Understanding various materials and substrates, specifically their use is an ongoing commitment for our industry. The use of non-metallics has greatly increased over the last decade. With these materials being used more and more, it is important for us to understand what non-metallics are, the properties the various non-metallic materials possess, the places these materials are applied, and how to inspect them.
Breaking Down the Development of Coating Failure Analysis
Date: June 27, 2023
Time: 9 – 10 a.m. CST - View local time
Cost: $100.00 USD
Speaker:
Sarah Olthof, GPI
We will explore the standard conduct of coating failure investigation. As each failure is different, a specific coating failure may require increased emphasis on a given step, or additional work and/ or steps may be required. This Forefront will cover the following topics: obtaining and analyzing background information, preliminary determination of site conditions, inspection equipment requirements, coating failure site investigation and more.
Novel Technologies For Detection and Monitoring of MIC In Oil Field Operations
Date: July 11, 2023
Time: 9 – 10 a.m. CST - View local time
Cost: $50.00 USD
Speaker:
Sven Lahme, ExxonMobil
Microbiologically influenced corrosion (MIC) is the corrosion affected by the presence or activity of microorganisms in biofilms on the surface of the corroding material – a problem that threatens assets in many industries, including oil and gas, water and wastewater, and maritime. You will gain knowledge of identifying MIC and examples of mitigation and prevention methods to employ. Our industry expert will walk you through which assets are susceptible and why, field and laboratory testing methods, and more.
Drone and Robotics Equipment: What Can This Technology Do?
Date: August 1, 2023
Time: 9 – 11 a.m. CST - View local time
Cost: $100.00 USD
Speakers:
Robert Dahlstrom, Apellix
David Price, GPI
John Diaz, GPI
Using drones on the job site is no longer considered a new and emerging technology. But questions still arise regarding what this equipment can and cannot do. Understanding the technology and the standardization of drone usage is still evolving. While drones and robotics are often used for inspection, we will also discuss how they are used in other applications, such as surface preparation and the application of materials. This virtual event will provide general information on what drones are currently doing, how to use them, where drone technology is headed in the future, and what’s currently being worked on from a standardization point of view.

Protecting Water Infrastructures From Corrosion
Date: November 14, 2023
Time: 9 – 11 a.m. CST - View local time
Cost: $100.00 USD
Speakers:
Brian Cheshire, Tnemec
Heather Steiner, Sherwin Williams
This topic will dive into the definition of sustainable coatings, what they are and what to expect from them. With current regulations becoming more stringent by the day, reducing allowable extractables, VOCs, and forever chemicals such as PFASs, it is important to understand why the regulations are occurring, how they impact our day-to-day lives and how their effects protect water infrastructure from corrosion. We will discuss the best sustainable method for protecting infrastructure from corrosion without reducing life cycle expectancy. Additionally, we will look into utilizing the next generation high-performance ceramic epoxy coatings to provide increased protection throughout the wastewater collection system.
