Education Protocols for Students in Face-to-Face Classes

At AMPP we understand that you may have concerns about the safety of participating in an in-person training course. We also share your concerns and are dedicated to the safety and health of our members, students, instructors, and staff.  

Please see the guidelines below, set forth by AMPP for all in-person training. We will continue to follow the recommendations of the CDC and WHO as they occur, where applicable, as well as recommendations of the local governing entities regarding the safety and viability for holding our regularly scheduled courses.

Participants Maintain a Healthy Learning Environment through COVID-19

All participants regardless of students, instructors, or facility host if you exhibit any of the symptoms listed below, you are not permitted to attend class. If you become unwell before class, please reach out to FirstService (833-797-2677) and you will be transferred to another class.

Participant Checklist - COVID-19 Symptoms for Screening

  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Chills
  • Repeated shaking with chills
  • Muscle pain
  • Headache
  • Sore throat
  • Loss of taste or smell
  • Diarrhea
  • Feeling feverish or a measured temperature greater than or equal to 100.0 degrees Fahrenheit
  • Known close contact with a person who has been confirmed by a lab to have COVID-19

We recognize that there may be multiple alternative explanations for these symptoms and that not every individual who is experiencing symptoms will develop COVID-19. However, out of an abundance of caution and in accordance with our transfer policy requirements, the individual(s) will not be allowed to transfer to another class until they meet the following criteria:

Student displaying symptoms during class will be dismissed from class immediately or students displaying symptoms after hours but during the class week are asked to not to return to class and both should call First Service immediately to report and document departure from class. Students may transfer into another class after:

  • 10 days since symptoms* began which will be treated as the dismissed from class date and
  • 24 hours with no fever without the use of fever-reducing medications and
  • Improvement in symptoms or
  • Until they receive an alternative diagnosis from a medical professional and can provide a note to return to class.

* Transfer fee will be applicable unless a note dated within 10 days from dismal is submitted.

Student who came in close contact without PPE with a student that was displaying symptoms in class may transfer into a future class after:

  • 14 days of self-isolation and must meet the screening criteria above before returning to class.
  • 24 hours with no fever without the use of fever-reducing medications and
  • Improvement in symptoms or
  • Until they receive an alternative diagnosis from a medical professional and can provide a note to return to class.

Additional Information for Students, Instructors and Facility Host

Travel Guidelines All participants are responsible for compliance with local, state, and country guidelines when traveling to and from course locations. AMPP is not responsible for your travel, including but not limited to costs, visas, passports, health screenings, social distancing, and quarantine regulations.
Guidelines And Provision of Personal Protective Equipment We highly encourage students to bring and wear a mask/covering in class. Compliance with local and federal regulations are required including wear a mask local or federal guidelines are required to do so. Masks, gloves, and hand sanitizer will be onsite where supplies are available. We encourage you to bring your own incase supplies are not available, or regulations change.
Social Distancing Required and Enforced AMPP Staff, facility host, instructors, and fellow students are asked to follow all social distancing guidelines.
Refreshments, Limiting Refreshment Area Traffic Food and beverage should be individually pre-packed when and where possible.  Students and instructors are encouraged reduce the number of people in the kitchen areas and adequate time is to be given for breaks to do so.
Cleaning Of Practical Equipment and Classroom Surfaces We have changed the procedures for practical workstations and exams in classes to minimize handling of equipment. Students will be given gloves to wear while handling classroom equipment.  Classroom surfaces will be wiped down daily and where possible additional wipes will be available for use in classroom during the day.
Social Distancing in Lobby and Common Areas Instructors and facilities are encouraged to stagger breaks and lunches to reduce exposure in common areas such as lobbies and kitchens.
Social Distancing in Classrooms We will follow the local recommended guidelines on social distancing including spacing out seating or limiting class sizes to encourage social distancing. Where social distancing is not feasible, measures such as face covering, hand hygiene, cough etiquette, cleanliness, and sanitation should be rigorously practiced.
Labs Lab processes have been amended where practical to reduce exposure.  Sanitization will be provided so that students can disinfect equipment prior to first use and after.
Registration For Exams Students will be directed to register for exams online or call Pearson for NACE Legacy exams at 800-655-9469. Hours for Pearson are M-F, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. CST.
Individual Responsibility
  • Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol. Cover all surfaces of your hands and rub them together until they feel dry.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
  • Students are discouraged from using other students’ pencils, pens, books, chairs, workspace, or other work tools and equipment, when possible. If necessary, clean and disinfect them before and after use.

Host Facilities Detailed Guidance:

Establish recommended policies and practices for social distancing at your facility. Below are recommended guidelines:

  • Social distancing, avoiding large gatherings and maintaining approximately 6 feet or 2 meters from others, when possible (e.g., breakrooms and classrooms), must be implemented when an AMPP course is being held at your facility.
  • Assess the essential functions and the reliance that students and instructors have on your services and facility.

Support respiratory etiquette and hand hygiene for students, instructors, and staff:

  • Provide tissues and no-touch disposal receptacles.
  • Provide soap and water in the facility. If soap and water are not readily available, alcohol-based hand sanitizer that is at least 60% alcohol must be. Ensure that adequate supplies are maintained.
  • Place hand sanitizers in multiple locations to encourage hand hygiene.
  • Masks must be always worn for all individuals when local or federal guidelines require.
  • Discourage handshaking – encourage the use of other noncontact methods of greeting.

Perform routine environmental cleaning and disinfection:

  • Routinely clean and disinfect all frequently touched surfaces in the facility, such as workstations, tables, chairs, handrails, and doorknobs. The host is to provide the cleaning products.
  • If surfaces are dirty, they should be cleaned using a detergent or soap and water prior to disinfection.
  • For disinfection, most common EPA-registered household disinfectants should be effective. Please see the list of products that are EPA-approved for use against the virus that causes COVID-19, in the link at the bottom of the page.
  • Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for all cleaning and disinfection products (e.g., concentration, application method and contact time, etc.).
  • Provide disposable wipes so that commonly used surfaces (for example, doorknobs, tables, chairs, remote controls, and/or other work tools and equipment) can be wiped down by students and instructors before each use.
