AMPP is thrilled to announce the initiation of the 2024 Dr. A. John Sedriks Seed Grant. Representing a network of over 33,500 members from the materials, corrosion, and coatings sectors, the grant reflects AMPP's commitment to innovative research in materials protection and performance.

Grant Value: $35,000

Grant Duration: January 1, 2024 - December 31, 2024  

Note: A potential one-year extension is available.

Dates for when applications will be open again for the SEED Grant will be updated in September. It will either be this fall or next fall.

Eligibility criteria

  • Applicants new to academia (within the past five years) or the materials protection and performance industry.
  • Researchers focusing on new areas or considerably expanding existing research in relevant fields.
  • Prior recipients of NACE Research Seed Grants are not eligible.

Application guidelines

To apply, interested researchers must submit a comprehensive proposal, including the following elements:

  1. Cover Sheet with title, PI contact information and Abstract (1 page)
  2. Proposal description should provide a clear statement of the work, outlining the objectives, expected significance, and timeline of their proposed work. The proposal should also emphasize the relationship of the work to the current state of knowledge in the field. (10 pages maximum).
  3. References cited and appendix (no page limit, but brevity is encouraged).
  4. Proposed budget sheet for $35,000 and budget justification for the first year (1 page) – Funds may not support university indirect costs/overhead.
  5. Current and pending support (1 page)
  6. Current facilities (1 page)
  7. PI’s bio sketch (Two pages maximum) – *Note: This is a single PI solicitation and proposals with more than one PI will not be considered.

Legacy & significance

The esteemed Legacy NACE Seed Grant has been recognizing brilliance since its inception between 1967-1969. Named after the renowned Dr. A. John Sedriks, this award celebrates his paramount contributions to corrosion research. Sedriks' groundbreaking efforts at LaQue Corrosion Technologies and the Office of Naval Research (ONR) have set industry benchmarks. He played a vital role in initiating the NACE Seed Grant Program and securing its funding through ONR.
