AMPP and Chinese Petroleum Society Advance Global Collaboration on Oil and Gas Corrosion Standards at International Forum

Kunming, China – (July 1, 2026) — The Association for Materials Protection and Performance (AMPP) joined the Standardization Committee of the Chinese Petroleum Society (CPSI) as a co-organizer of the 3rd Oil & Gas Corrosion Protection Technology and Standard Forum, held June 24-25 in Kunming, China. The international forum brought together more than 150 experts, engineers, researchers, and industry leaders to exchange technical knowledge, advance corrosion management practices, and strengthen international collaboration on standards development for the oil and gas industry.

Representatives from PetroChina, Sinopec, CNOOC, PipeChina, research institutions, and other organizations participated in the forum alongside AMPP leadership, including Tim Gonzalez, Vice President of Energy Integrity Solutions; Brad Wilder, P.E. (KY), CAE, Senior Director of Technical Advancement; and Bei Gu, Manager of AMPP China & Europe.

The forum highlighted emerging technologies, best practices, and evolving standards supporting corrosion prevention and asset integrity across oil and gas infrastructure. Technical sessions addressed AMPP standards and field applications, corrosion control in challenging operating environments, pipeline monitoring technologies, stray current interference mitigation, and the future of digital corrosion management.

"As the oil and gas industry continues to evolve, collaboration across borders is essential to developing practical solutions that improve safety, reliability, and long-term asset performance," Gonzalez said. "This forum demonstrated the value of bringing together global experts to share knowledge, align technical approaches, and strengthen the standards that help protect critical infrastructure around the world. AMPP is proud to support these global conversations that help to advance our industry."

Gonzalez delivered the forum keynote, “Forging Fresh Pathways for Our Future,” which explored opportunities for greater international cooperation and innovation within the corrosion profession.

Wilder presented, “Engaging in Global Standards Development,” highlighting the importance of international participation in standards development and the role consensus standards play in supporting safe, reliable, and sustainable infrastructure.

"Standards are most effective when they are developed through broad technical expertise and global collaboration," Wilder said. "Working alongside organizations like CPSI helps strengthen the exchange of knowledge, encourages greater harmonization where appropriate, and supports the continued advancement of corrosion prevention technologies for the benefit of industry worldwide."

The forum featured keynote presentations by technical leaders from CPSI, PetroChina, Sinopec Engineering Incorporation, China Petroleum General Planning & Engineering Institute, Beijing Gas Group, PipeChina and other organizations. Two dedicated technical tracks focused on internal and external corrosion standards, allowing participants to discuss implementation challenges, emerging technologies, and opportunities for future standards development.

The event concluded with both AMPP and CPSI reaffirming their commitment to expanding cooperation with industry organizations worldwide. The organizations plan to continue jointly organizing high-level technical forums, promoting the international development of corrosion protection standards, and supporting innovation that advances the safe, reliable, and sustainable operation of oil and gas infrastructure.
