Eligibility criteria
- Applicants new to academia (within the past five years) or the materials protection and performance industry.
- Researchers focusing on new areas or considerably expanding existing research in relevant fields.
- Prior recipients of previous AMPP or NACE Research Seed Grants are not eligible.
Application guidelines
To apply, interested researchers must submit a comprehensive proposal, including the following elements:
- Cover Sheet with title, PI contact information and Abstract (1 page)
- Proposal description should provide a clear statement of the work, outlining the objectives, expected significance, and timeline of their proposed work. The proposal should also emphasize the relationship of the work to the current state of knowledge in the field. (10 pages maximum).
- References cited and appendix (no page limit, but brevity is encouraged).
- Proposed budget sheet for $38,000 and budget justification for the first year (1 page) – Funds may not support university indirect costs/overhead.
- Current and pending support (1 page)
- Current facilities (1 page)
- PI’s bio sketch (Two pages maximum) – *Note: This is a single PI solicitation and proposals with more than one PI will not be considered.
Recipient requirements
To strengthen scientific impact, transparency, and leadership development, all awardees should agree to the following conditions:
- Conference Presentation: Recipient will present project results at an AMPP Annual Conference during the two-year grant window. One complimentary conference registration will be provided to the recipient, but travel and accommodations must be part of the proposed budget. Future locations for the AMPP conference are Columbus, OH in 2027 and San Antonio, TX in 2028.
- Publication in CORROSION/MP: Publication of one peer-reviewed article submission based on grant results to CORROSION or Materials Performance (MP), within one year after the end of the grant period, subject to acceptance by those publications.
- Data Management: A Data Management Plan is required and must describe anticipated datasets and how data, metadata, and supplementary materials will be stored and shared. Use of AMPP-supported data repositories is encouraged when appropriate.
- Service to the Community: Required to serve as a member of the Seed Grant review committee for the subsequent Seed Grant cycle.
