Hello everyone,
I have been trying to identify the best practice for ensuring that cathodic protection systems are de-energized prior to work. We had findings that many people on our site were unaware of what assets were being cathodically protected. Feedback from colleagues across various industries have resulted in mixed reports. Some sites have it in their line identification on their P&ID's, while others can usually only find it on their electrical drawings.
At my site we have issued for construction and as-built drawings detailing these systems, but this practice of labelling the lines on the piping drawings has led to oversights. We have signage at isolation kits for our assets, but I have only seen this being a requirement in Section 80 of the CSA Canadian Electrical Code.
Is anyone aware of any written best practices or sites they have seen that detail the presence of cathodic protection outside of system drawings? We are trying to ensure that we do not rely on verbal knowledge transfer to ensure that all personnel are aware of the assets that are being cathodically protected prior to LOTO walkdowns.
Thanks in advance.
Alexander
