For the past four years NACE International has partnered with Engineers Without Borders USA to support their mission of helping the poorest communities meet the basic human needs of their citizens. We recently received a request from them to provide technical consultative support on a bridge project in Guatemala. The following is a description of the project and the help they are looking for:
We used pressure treated wood with treatment levels for buried conditions. For concrete, we used the same cover as for US Salt conditions.
The real risk is from the hundreds of millions of cubic yards of material that may/will come down the mountain. The conveyor will be water, so the risk is really if we get another hurricane to hit the region like Agatha.
They are also interested in the protection of the bridge cables. They are 1 1/4" cables (wire rope) that are the top of the suspension bridge and are exposed to the elements continuously.

Qualifications
Strong technical knowledge on the topic
Requirements
Willingness to provide volunteer support to this project
At this time, the only commitment is a phone call with the project lead to discuss the situation and provide technical consultation.
