Description:

Each volunteer will review a report submitted by a university team to provide feedback on the system design and ensure that the approach falls within the competition rules.

The University Student Design and Applied Solutions Competition challenges university student teams to conceptualize and design a system to independently inspect for corrosion in hard-to-access areas.  This gives students the opportunity to apply fresh perspectives and ideas to solve a real-world problem faced in the industry.  Each team has the option of submitting its initial design for review by SME's in the field of corrosion and coating inspection to ensure that it is a feasible design and falls within the competition rules.  Because many of the competitors are Engineering students with little to no previous experience with corrosion or corrosion inspection, the review of this preliminary report is intended to give the students feedback and comments from industry experts to ensure that the design of the system the team is intending to build is realistic and capable of identifying and inspecting for corrosion.  Each volunteer will need to become familiar with the competition’s official rules.  These rules as well as specific information regarding the competition can be found at www.usdasc.com.

Qualifications: 10 years corrosion and coating inspection experience with specific experience locating coating holidays, pitting, scratches, etc.
