AMPP SC 05 – Surface Preparation: develops and maintains standards, guides, and reports for preparing surfaces in order to increase adhesion to coatings and linings

AMPP Standard Committee (SC) 05 – Surface Preparation develops and maintains standards, guides, and reports for preparing metal and concrete surfaces in order to improve performance of coatings and linings. SC 05 is responsible for review and development of standards for:

  • Abrasive media used for surface preparation 
  • Surface cleanliness levels for coated and uncoated metal and concrete surfaces prepared by 
    • Dry abrasive blast cleaning
    • Wet abrasive blast cleaning
    • High and ultrahigh pressure waterjetting
  • Testing of prepared surfaces for nonvisible contaminants such as soluble salts, and analysis of results
  • Evaluating the surface profile of the prepared surface, including both the depth and density of the profile.
  • Specialty surface cleaning methods such as laser ablation and non-thermal plasma cleaning
