  • 1.  Clarity about Inorganic Zinc Paint

    Posted 09-15-2022 09:52 AM
Inorganic Zinc Paint is applied on a external surface of boiler, economizer and stack where maximum operating temperature is 227 C, Can thermal insulation be applied on external surface after inorganic zinc paint ?? Because as per NACE SPO 198 Clause 4.3.5 inorganic zinc paint can not be used of temperature range of 50 to 175 C.

    Please clarify.

You have mentioned max op. temp. 227 C , so Inorganic Zinc primer is selected.

    Hi Shahroze,

Inorganic zinc silicate is suitable for application onto well prepared blasted surfaces, min SA2.5 for exposed carbon steel substrate of temperature resistance of up to 540 DegC.  It gprovides excellent atmospheric corrosion resistance; however, it should not be insulated after application as per NACE SP0198 Clause 4.3.5. Because zinc silicate performance deteriorates gradually in those wet and damp insulated conditions. If the equipment requires to be insulated, do consider alternative products e.g crossed-linked epoxy phenolic.

These are my humble sharing and opinions.

    Good day!
