The Surface Preparation Technical Community of Interest is a group of people (both AMPP members and nonmembers) who have come together for the purpose of furthering a common cause by sharing wisdom, knowledge, information, and/or data for or preparing surfaces in order to clean and/or increase adhesion to coatings and linings.

    Hi all,

    We have recently had vendors approach us with laser blasting technology that claims to create profiles up to 150um in steel substrates.

    By their own admission, it is not yet economical for larger scale structures like we manufacture (civil steel bridge spans).

    Interested to hear from everyone in here if they have had any experience with this yet, and if they have seen any testing done etc.

    Keen to see as well how this would be accepted as an alternative to conventional blasting profiling methods, in particular from the spec writing and acceptance into blasting standards point of view.
