The Marine Technical Community of Interest is a group of people (both AMPP members and nonmembers) who have come together for the purpose of furthering a common cause by sharing wisdom, knowledge, information, and/or data for studying the corrosion mechanisms, causes, effects, and corrosion control remedies for ships, structures, and equipment exposed to marine environments, and to disseminate information on the research, development, and performance of materials, coatings, and improved or innovative methods to mitigate problems related to marine corrosion.

In response to increased federal focus on revitalizing the U.S. maritime industrial base, AMPP is launching the Shipbuilding Network/USA. This member-driven initiative aligns our collective expertise with national priorities in corrosion prevention, workforce development, and standards modernization.

    Why this matters now:

    • Corrosion significantly impacts ship performance, cost, and readiness
    • U.S. shipyards must modernize with proven, protective technologies
    • Workforce shortages require bold action and certified training programs
    • AMPP members bring unmatched knowledge to the policy conversation

The Network will serve as a strategic platform to bring together AMPP members, government leaders, and industry experts, ensuring corrosion mitigation and materials protection are integrated into every stage of shipbuilding and maintenance.

Initial outcomes of the Network include:

    • Gaining a seat at the table in shaping shipbuilding management practices, especially as new federal policies may significantly alter how U.S. shipbuilding operates in the future.
    • Building connections between industry, government, and academia to support sound corrosion-related management practices emerging from recent reshoring efforts.

Most activities will be virtual, with a special in-person opportunity at AMPP Advocacy Day, July 9–10, 2025, in Washington, D.C.
