Achieving Sustainable Development Goals Workshop

On Monday from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. local time, Juan Caballero from Naval & Industrial Solutions (Panama City , Panama ) will present the workshop titled “Achieving Sustainable Development Goals With the Use of Foul Release Systems in Underwater Hulls: An Inspector’s Experiences on Drydocking Challenges and How to Overcome Them.” This non-paper presentation will provide attendees with useful training and skills. It will be held in the Phoenix Convention Center, North 225 A–B.

The use of foul release systems in marine vessels contributes to accomplishing global sustainability development goals. Adequate dry-docking inspection during the application of this type of coating systems is essential for a successful project execution. Therefore, it is important that the inspector understand how the foul release systems helps to meet the sustainable development goals, have knowledge on adequate procedures, and possess experience to overcome main inspection challenges in the field.

Foul release systems provide fouling protection, minimize the impact on marine ecosystems, reduce fuel consumption, and lower carbon emissions generation. Coating manufacturers have designed special surface preparation and paint application procedures for achieving system expected performance. These special procedures requirements can be challenging to achieve for the applicators, and the inspector’s expertise to manage this type of situation is highly important in order to successfully perform in these demanding projects.
