On Thursday from 9:30-11:30 a.m., Valerie Sherbondy and Rick Huntley, both with KTA-Tator, Inc., will present, “Coating Failure Investigation Workshop: Make the Fix Better Than the Problem.” This workshop will take place at the Phoenix Convention Center, North 225 A–B.
When premature coating failures occur, there are often arguments, allegations, and finger-pointing as attempts are made to determine fault and who will be on the hook financially. Sometimes, assumptions are made with incomplete information and the rework results in a second coating failure. This workshop will follow the steps of collecting background information, conducting a site visit, forensic analysis, and development of a failure mechanism. Participants will guide the investigation by choosing what data they feel is significant to the investigation and a failure resolution. Using the information collected, the participants will determine what went wrong, who is at fault, and how to remedy the situation so that the fix is better than the initial application and a repeat failure does not occur.
