Workshops Offer Overview of Coatings, Training Opportunities

Monday represented the first full day of the 2021 Coatings+ conference in Phoenix, Arizona, USA, and a pair of afternoon workshops helped kick off the flagship event for numerous attendees.

In one room, Charles Brown, Mike Baase, and Chris Farschon of Greenman-Pedersen, Inc. (GPI) presented the Coatings 101 workshop. Coatings 101 offered an overview of typical industrial protective coatings projects, including design considerations, material selection, surface preparation guides, ambient conditions, and basic quality control techniques. The goal was to provide attendees with a basic understanding of how protective coatings are specified and applied to meet a project’s objectives.

As part of the workshop, GPI’s presenters reviewed and presented information related to typical inspection instruments used on a paint project; surface preparation guides; how to read a product data sheet; and how to measure ambient conditions.

Meanwhile, at the same time and just across the Phoenix Convention Center hall, other guests took advantage of another workshop aimed at helping attendees advance their careers with the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) and Department of Transportation (DoT).

Titled “Available Training for DoD or DoTs,” the session was hosted and moderated by GPI’s Paul Vinik while also featuring speakers who are with the DoD and the DoTs. In turn, these guests provided information on the types of resources that are available to advance attendees’ careers. Guests were able to ask questions during the interactive session and chat with their peers.

The speakers, who come from both the government and public/civilian sectors, offered unique insight regarding their career trajectories. They also shared information on why the different training options offered by AMPP are beneficial to DoD and DoT employees.
