AMPP Diversity & Inclusion Panel Announces Recipients of the Association’s New Grant Program

  

Houston, Texas and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – The Association for Materials Protection and Performance (AMPP) is pleased to announce the first recipients of its new Diversity and Inclusion Grant. The grant was established in 2020 with an initial investment of $50,000 to support equality and opportunity for underrepresented and disenfranchised AMPP members worldwide. The grant provides financial resources to help recipients advance and achieve professional success in the corrosion and protective coatings industry.

Candidates were selected by AMPP’s Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Panel, which is comprised of six members from five countries including the United States, Canada, Pakistan, South Africa, Australia. The panel was tasked with the creation of the grant, the parameters for evaluation, the scoring rubric, candidate review, and selection.

“We are excited to award these grants to such an ambitious, talented group,” said Kim Ray, Director of Preprofessional and Young Professional Programs for AMPP. “It was a very competitive field with more than 40 well qualified applicants, and the panel selected six excellent candidates to receive this recognition. We look forward to seeing the impact this will have on their careers and the impact they will have on our industry.”

Those who applied for the grant are seeking support such as funding for training, membership, travel assistance to industry events, professional tools and equipment, books, and other resources. The grants awarded range from $5,000 - $10,000 per person depending on their needs.

The winners of the 2022 AMPP Diversity and Inclusion Grant are:

  • Dr. Bhavesh Dharmraj Gajbhiye – Navi Mumbai, India
  • Brittney Jefferson – Mobile, AL, USA
  • Dike Ejibe – Port Harcourt, Nigeria
  • Lisseth Ocando – Maracaibo, Venezuela
  • Samuel Popoola – Lagos, Nigeria
  • Dr. Sarah Bill Ulaeto – Calabar, Nigeria

The application period for the 2022 AMPP Diversity and Inclusion Grant will open July 1, 2022.
