The Titanium, Zirconium and Other Reactive Metals Technical Community of Interest is a group of people (both AMPP members and nonmembers) who have come together for the purpose of furthering a common cause by sharing wisdom, knowledge, information, and/or data on alloy properties, grades, corrosion resistance, fabrication, and use of titanium, zirconium, and other reactive metals (e.g., niobium, tantalum), in process (chemical) industries.

    Ladies/Gentlemen,

Hello and good morning/afternoon/evening.   I hope you enjoyed AMPP 2022 Conference and Expo as much as I did; what great energy, people, attendance, symposia and exposition!

Let me introduce myself, I am William (Bill) Valerioti, the new chairperson of the Process Industries Technical Committee.   I just retired after 40 years as a materials and corrosion prevention engineer in the refining and petrochemical industry.   With plenty of reserve energy and newfound time on-my-hands, I am eager to engage you all and work together to reinvigorate the Process Industries Technical Committee (TC), and associated Technical Communities and Interest (TCIs).

I'm reaching out to you today as a member of the Pharmaceutical and Speciality Chemicals Technical Community of Interest, to learn if you'd be interested in joining me as a voting member of Process Industries Technical Committee; we'd like to start out with 5 voting members (including me), and I hope you will consider and agree to join us as a Process Industries Technical Committee voting member

As noted on AMPP's website portal, Get Involved, Technical Committee (TC) chairs report directly to the AMPP Technical Program Committee and are responsible for overseeing various Technical Communities of Interest of various subject matters. These committees will be responsible for approving and disbanding current and future Technical Communities of Interest (TCI's), appointing leadership positions, and identifying gaps within their respective subject matter for the organization to act on.

Technical Committee (TC) chairs are selected by the AMPP Technical Program Committee (TPC) for a 2-year term. Once the chairs are selected, they can select up to 14 additional voting members maximum (15 total voting members including chair) for their committee per the AMPP Global Center Charter. In addition to selecting their members, they will also determine the term limits for each member of their committee.

Once we have at least 5 voting committee members in place, our first order of business likely will be to meet (virtually) to discuss the current and potential future Process Industries' TCIs.

As you may know having visited the Get Involved link, a Technical Community of Interest is a group of people who share a common technical interest.

As a member of a Technical Community of Interest, people are able to participate in:

    • Discussion at-will on the selected topic via our online community platform
    • Present information (by members and non-members)
    • Connect via meetings hosted on a collaboration platform, via teleconferences or at conferences (either regional or global events).
    • TCIs have unlimited membership. Any AMPP member or nonmember can join a TCI.

Currently, there are seven (7), active Process Industries Technical Communities of Interest, they are:

    1. Chemical
    2. Chemical (High Temperature)
    3. Process Industries - Materials Applications and Experiences
    4. Mining
    5. Food Industry
    6. Pharmaceutical & Specialty Chemicals
    7. Pulp & Paper

I hope you will consider and accept this opportunity to be a voting of Process Industries Technical Committee.  I believe one of our key objectives will be to identify and connect with people with a passion and energy to instill new energy and technical content to Process Industries Technical Committee, and lay the ground work for Process Industries' Technical Communities of Interest.

If you feel you are not able/willing to join us at this time, as a minimum, I would ask that you think of other materials/corrosion SMEs in your industry,  company, organization, who might be interested in becoming a voting member and/or leading a Process Industries TCI, and forward this note to them.

It is important to connect with less-tenured materials and corrosion SMEs around the word, as AMPP is a world-side association that is eager to engage and transfer knowledge to new and younger members of the workforce/community, so please consider all your colleagues and connections.

Please contact me via email (BVal58@gmail.com) or though the AMPP Technical Community of Interest member "send message" tool.   Thank you.

    Sincerely,

    Bill Valerioti, P.E.

Retired Chief Materials and Corrosion Prevention Engr. (Chevron Phillips Chemical LC)
