About Standards

AMPP Standards

AMPP Standards drive our industry

Contribute, learn, and influence global industry consensus standards

Our standards enable commerce, facilitate agreement between buyers and sellers, assist in meeting regulatory requirements, and define methods of testing. AMPP corrosion and coatings standards fill the standardization needs of industries, with a focus on the impact of emerging technologies, new materials and capabilities, and regulatory requirements.

Standards Committees (SCs) provide professionals with a platform for sharing subject matter expertise, expanding and enhancing their professional footprint, and making an impact on technology and industry. AMPP SCs are responsible for the generation, publishing, and maintenance of all AMPP products that require a consensus-driven process.

Public comment period on identical national adoption of ISO 17945-2016 (which ISO confirmed in 2021) as NACE MR0103/ISO 17945-2016 (R202x), “Petroleum, Petrochemical and Natural Gas Industries – Metallic Materials Resistant to Sulfide Stress Cracking in Corrosive Petroleum Refining Environments”

AMPP SC 08 is planning to reaffirm its identical national adoption of ISO 17945-2016 (which ISO confirmed in 2021) as NACE MR0103/ISO 17945-2016 (R202x), “Petroleum, Petrochemical and Natural Gas Industries – Metallic Materials Resistant to Sulfide Stress Cracking in Corrosive Petroleum Refining Environments”

This standard establishes material requirements for resistance to SSC in sour petroleum refining and related processing environments containing H2S either as a gas or dissolved in an aqueous (liquid water) phase with or without the presence of hydrocarbon. Specifically, this standard is directed at the prevention of SSC of equipment (including pressure vessels, heat exchangers, piping, valve bodies, and pump and compressor cases) and components used in the refining industry. It is intended to be used by refiners, equipment manufacturers, engineering contractors, and construction contractors.

ANSI has announced the public comment period on this standard, which will conclude on February 20, 2023.  Should you wish to review and comment on AMPP’s national adoption of this ISO standard, you may obtain a copy at www.iso.org.  Any comments may be sent to rick.southard@ampp.org.

Publication of ANSI/NACE MR0175-2021/ISO 15156:2020, "Petroleum and Natural Gas Industries-Materials for Use in H2S-Containing Environments in Oil and Gas Production"

AMPP is pleased to announce that ANSI/NACE MR0175-2021/ISO 15156-2020, "Petroleum and Natural Gas Industries-Materials for Use in H2S-Containing Environments in Oil and Gas Production," is published and is now available in the AMPP Store.  Unlike previous versions of MR0175, the three parts of the standard are combined into one PDF file for easier searchability. The most recent Technical Circulars for ISO 15156:2020 are also available in a package with the standard, or they may be purchased separately.

You may join a Standards Committee (SC) from our website. You must have an active AMPP profile including your company/organization (or you can create an AMPP profile when prompted). Association membership is not required but highly encouraged. Open the dropdown next to Standards on the menu bar, select the “Join A Standards Committee” option to join one or more SCs as an Observer. Identification of your interest classification as Producer, User, or General Interest is required. If you need assistance, please contact Customer Support.

Any individual or organization may identify the need for a new standard by completing a Project Request Form (more information here) and email the completed form to standards@ampp.org. If you need assistance with completion of the form, standards staff will be happy to assist you.

Standards Committees may call for volunteers by notification to SC members for projects. In addition, you may email your request to standards@ampp.org. A Staff Liaison will respond to assist you with your request.
